Kevin Ray's Headshots

Kevin is a graduate of Oberlin College and Conservatory where he majored in Vocal Performance. He is currently at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, but was back for a visit.
He stopped by this morning to update his headshots and we had a great time.
The challenge with photographing an opera singer is that you have to convey drama and personality and spirit with just their face. You don’t have their instrument to rely on to tell the viewer what they do. The photo has to catch your eye and draw you in.
These are some of Kevin’s favorites. Which is yours?

A few more to look at…..

  1. KEV!!!!
Oh my gosh! You look great!! My favorites are the third one down (the second to last black and white one), and the very last! They look so much like you to me, and they’re very intriguing! They’re definitely the pictures that make you think… oooo I want to talk to him. They’re serious but have a sense of fun and joy behind them!
yayyy! Miss and love you lots!

  2. I like the color one the best—it has the best contrast and a pretty good expression. The serious one is far too scary for me 😀

  3. Kevin, I went to OCHS with your Dad. I was another sax player (but majored in organ) and we sang and played together hither and yon (and were in plays together) from 7th grade through graduation. Sue used my sax through her OCHS years. Bill and I stayed in touch all through the years, and I still think of him often. He got in touch with me when you were in h.s. and considering BU (I live in Boston, and my husband teaches at BU). Another one of Bill’s IUP friends (Mark Munson, head of choral studies at Bowling Green) and I were talking about him on the phone yesterday. We were wondering about you; he found this and sent it along. Great shots! You look like your dad to me, with lots of your Mom’s face melded in too. Congratulations, and best wishes for a great career.
