Amy & Sean are such a lovely couple! Sean is a music teacher and Amy is pursuing a career in music and theater. They have music and the literature in their hearts, and those loves came out clearly during their springtime wedding in Oberlin.
Maybe I should say “springtime” because it snowed the night before that particular Saturday March 28th. The day was still breathtakingly beautiful with blue skies and white fluffy clouds, and all the ladies braved the elements (at least briefly) to take some “spring” portraits. I might confess to having retouched out some goose pimples.
The ceremony took place in the lovely Fairchild Chapel on Tappan Square in Oberlin. There was beautiful music and deep spirituality infused throughout the service. Amy literally glowed in her gorgeous dress.
The reception took place in the Root Room next door, which had formerly been the Carnegie Library designed by Andrew Carnegie himself. Amy & Sean particularly liked this detail because they met while studying at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA – where Andrew Carnegie made a name for himself. There were other Pittsburgh nods at their wedding including the tradition of a cookie table. There were dozens and dozens of cookies – all prepared by Sean’s family. Each guest table was decorated with quotes from Amy’s favorite authors. Amy & Sean also used a crocheted table cloth that was made by Amy’s Great-Great-Grandmother on the table with the seating chart. They also used Irish linen napkins on the cocktail tables that were a wedding present to Amy’s maternal grandmother in 1956.
Amy & Sean’s wedding was a real DIY affair. Their friends and family members played all the music for the ceremony with Tiffany Schaefer on harp, Sarah Meholick on piano, David Dick on violin and Emily Jones on piano. Amy’s mother, along with friends and family made all the reception decorations including the lovely quotes that Amy picked out. And although a professional (Oak Ridge Floral) did the bride’s bouquet, the friends and family team assembled all the reception florals as well as the bridesmaid bouquets and groomsmen boutonnieres.
Congratulations again! I wish you both the very best for your new life together.
