Dylan and Asaki met at Oberlin College while they were both students. They both ate in the lovely coop Old Barrows (Old B as it is affectionately known). Dylan approached Asaki for tutorial in Japanese language study, and they got to know each other more.
It is easy to see how they fell in love. Opposites attract and also compliment each other. Dylan is outgoing while Asaki is shy. All of that language study has translated into an unspoken communication between the two of them. Love radiates.
The couple has been living in Japan for several years now where Dylan is an academic Japanese to English translator and Asaki has been studying to become a nurse-midwife. She begins working in April!
They were married in January in Kyoto, Japan. And I got to photograph their second wedding celebration in Oberlin, Ohio.
The ceremony was simple. The couple whom had already exchanged rings, took them off and had them passed around the room and blessed by all their guests. The also exchanged vows in English and had a poem read by their college friend Meiko.
We took advantage of the gorgeous weather and took photos at many of the couple’s favorite spots around campus, including Mudd Library and Old B, of course!
The reception was whimsical and elegant with custom kitty themed menus designed by A Charming Fete. The wedding planners took care of many of the details since the couple lives out of the country. They also created hand-made name cards utilizing pieces from the college newspaper, The Oberlin Review.
The flowers were gorgeous and the dessert table was a showstopper with not only an incredible cake, made to look like a stack of books, but also elegant and delicious pastries like macarons, mini cupcakes and cream pies. Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes; you wowed us! Can anyone get the pun on the cakes? The book titles were created from Foucault books, but edited to make they kitty-like.
The surprise of the evening was a performance by Oberlin’s all-male a cappella group.
The rest of the evening was spent dancing with excellent DJ skills by Marcus from A Bride’s DJ.
Congratulation Dylan and Asaki!
